<br />LSS 1/29/04 <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2004-015 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCil OF THE CITY OF <br />SANTA ANA SUPPORTING STATE FUNDING OF EIGHT <br />PROJECTS AND AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTIVE <br />DIRECTOR OF THE PUBLIC WORKS AGENCY TO <br />SUBMIT THE PROJECTS FOR FUNDING UNDER THE <br />STATE'S SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL PROGRAM <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCil OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA AS <br />FOllOWS: <br /> <br />Section 1. The City Council of the City of Santa Ana hereby finds, determines <br />and declares as follows: <br /> <br />A. In 1999 the State of California enacted into law Assembly Bill (AB) 1475 that <br />calls for Caltrans to establish and administer a "Safe Routes to School" construction <br />program ("Program") and to use federal transportation funds for the construction of <br />bicycle, pedestrian safety, and traffic calming projects; and <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />B. AB 1475 mandates that Caltrans shall make grants available to local <br />governmental agencies under the Program based on the results of a statewide <br />competition; and <br /> <br />C. Projects eligible for funding include construction projects that improve the <br />safety of pedestrian and/or bicycle routes to and from schools; and <br /> <br />D. The City Council of the City of Santa Ana possesses the legal authority to <br />nominate, finance, acquire, and construct projects that are eligible for funding under the <br />AB 1475 Program; and <br /> <br />E. The City Council of the City of Santa Ana supports efforts to improve <br />pedestrian safety in the City of Santa Ana. <br /> <br />Section 2. The City Council of the City of Santa Ana supports State funding of <br />projects in the City of Santa Ana under AB 1475, California's Safe Routes to School <br />Program, and authorizes the Executive Director of the Public Works Agency or his <br />designee to execute in the name of the City of Santa Ana all necessary applications <br />required to be submitted to Caltrans for the eight projects identified in Exhibit 1 for <br />funding under California's Safe Routes to School Program. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption by <br />the City Council, and the Clerk of the Council shall attest to and certify the vote adopting <br />this Resolution. <br /> <br />Resolution No. 2004-015 <br />Page 1 of3 <br />
