<br />11. 6 <br /> <br />11. 7 <br /> <br />11. 8 <br /> <br />11. 9 <br /> <br />11.10 <br /> <br />Unauthorized Absence. Unauthorized absence from duty for <br />any duration of time may be considered cause for <br />dismissal. Absence from duty without leave for five (5) <br />consecutive working days shall be deemed a resignation <br />from the service; provided, however, if upon return to <br />duty the person so absenting himself makes an explanation <br />satisfactory to the Police Chief of the cause of his <br />absence, the Police Chief may restore him to his <br />position, with the City Manager's approval. <br /> <br />Authorized Absence Without Pav. Absence without pay not <br />to exceed five (5) consecutive working days, may be <br />authorized by the Police Chief. Absence without pay not <br />to exceed fifteen (15) calendar days may be authorized by <br />the department with the approval of the City Manager. <br />Such absences may be authorized only if in the judgment <br />of the Police Chief they serve the best interest of the <br />City. <br /> <br />Authorized Absence Without Pav - LonG Term. Upon receipt <br />of a written request from an employee having permanent <br />status plus action by the Police Chief recommending <br />approval of the request, the City Manager may grant a <br />leave of absence for up to six (6) months. <br /> <br />An employee returning to duty with the City shall inform <br />the Police Chief and chief personnel officer of his or <br />her intention at least thirty (30) calendar days prior to <br />the expiration of the six (6) months period or shorter <br />period if the full six (6) months is not taken. Upon <br />receipt of such notice, the Police Chief will take steps <br />necessary to restore the employee to his or her former <br />position. <br /> <br />Administrative Leave. The City Manager is authorized to <br />grant, at his discretion, administrative leave with or <br />without pay for permanent employees if, in his opinion, <br />such a leave is in the interests of the City. <br /> <br />Industrial Leave. <br /> <br />A. <br /> <br />Each "safety member" employee covered by the <br />provisions of Labor Code Section 4850 who is <br />compelled to be absent from duty because of an <br />illness or injury covered by the State of <br />California Workers' Compensation Insurance and <br />Safety Act shall, in lieu of temporary disability <br />compensation payable under the aforementioned Act, <br />continue to be paid his or her normal salary and <br /> <br />49 <br />
