<br />REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />. <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br /> <br />~ <br />~ <br /> <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br /> <br />APRIL 19,2004 <br />TITLE: <br /> <br />APPROVED <br />0 As Recommended <br />0 As Amended <br />0 Ordinance on 1" Reading <br />0 Ordinance on 2°' Reading <br />0 Implementing Resolution <br />0 Set Public Hearing For <br /> <br />AGREEMENT FOR MOTHER'S DAY <br />MARIACHI CELEBRATION <br />ENTERTAINMENT <br /> <br /> <br />~~ <br /> <br />CONTINUED TO <br /> <br />,tJ. <br /> <br />FILE NUMBER <br /> <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br /> <br />Direct the City Attorney to prepare and authorize the City Manager and <br />Clerk of the Council to execute an agreement with Hernandez Productions in <br />an amount not to exceed $25,000 to produce the Mother's Day Mariachi <br />'Celebration entertainment. <br /> <br />ttISCUSSION <br /> <br />The City of Santa Ana, the Friends of Santa Ana Parks and Recreation and <br />various community volunteers are coordinating the Third Annual Mother's Day <br />Celebration with Mariachi music, scheduled for Saturday, May 8, 2004 at the <br />Santa Ana Stadium. The event is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m. and end at <br />,5:00 p.m. and features the world famous Mariachi Sol de Mexico and Mariachi <br />Reyna de Los Angeles, both managed by Hernandez Productions. Mariachi Reyna <br />de Los Angeles, the all female group, is returning for its third <br />engagement. Hernandez Productions will also provide a ballet folklorico, <br />lariat entertainment, coordination of rehearsals and numbers, back stage <br />management and stage design. An aggressive ticket sales plan is being <br />implemented and includes allowing the City' sneighborhood associations to <br />sell tickets as a fundraiser. <br /> <br />'The Agency, along with the Friends of Santa Ana Parks and Recreation, <br />manages an ongoing fundraising campaign that helps supplement the budget <br />for community events such as concerts, parades, youth holiday celebrations <br />and other similar events. Due to this success, funds are available in the <br />Community Affairs budget to cover the cost of the proposed agreement with <br />Hernandez Productions. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />25E-1 <br />
