FOR TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT <br />CENTER SYSTEM UPGRADES, <br />MAINTENANCE, AND OPERATIONAL <br /> <br />S.?"POR~C'~ <br />d LiJ?kZ <br /> <br />.,. ~I CITY MANAGER <br />/ <br />, <br />V RECOMMENDED ACTION <br /> <br />CONTINUED TO <br /> <br />FILE NUMBER <br /> <br />Direct the City Attorney to prepare, and authorize the City Manager and <br />Clerk of the Council to execute an agreement with TransCore ITS, Inc. in <br />an amount not to exceed $60,000 for Traffic Management Center system <br />_pgrades, maintenance and operational support services for the City's <br />,..,raffic Management Center. <br /> <br />DISCUSSION <br /> <br />The Santa Ana Traffic Management Center, completed in May 1995, <br />facilitates a state-of-the-art computer system that controls all traffic <br />signals in the City. This system requires routine maintenance and <br />emergency repair of equipment and software malfunctions. City staff <br />does not have the expertise and equipment to perform these specialized <br />functions. <br /> <br />TransCore was the original designer, installer, and integrator of this <br />system. Part of the system installed includes their proprietary <br />software. TransCore has been on contract with the City since 1995. The <br />City staff considers this company to be the best and only company <br />qualified to provide these services to the City. No other company is as <br />familiar with the system as TransCore. <br /> <br />The rates charged by TransCore are very competitive in the engineering <br />industry. To ensure that City costs are minimized, all work will be <br />specifically authorized by the Public Works Agency as needed. Based on <br />.hese circumstances, staff recommends an agreement for system hardware <br />and software upgrades, maintenance, and operational support with <br />TransCore for a period of one year. <br /> <br />25G-1 <br />
