<br />VII. HAZARDS/HAZARDOUS MATERIALS <br /> <br />A. Create a significant hazard to <br />environment through the routine <br />disposal of hazardous materials? <br /> <br />the public <br />transport, <br /> <br />or <br />use <br /> <br />the <br />or <br /> <br />Implementation of the proposed project would involve <br />renovations to the existing building on the project site. <br />The City's building records indicate that the building was <br />constructed in the 1950's. During that period of time <br />asbestos containing building materials and lead paint were <br />common building materials. Both asbestos containing <br />building materials and lead paint could pose health hazards <br />if they are inadvertently released into the air and inhaled <br />by employees during construction operations. <br /> <br />Mitigation Measure <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Prior to issuance of demolition permits, an <br />and lead paint survey shall be prepared and <br />to the Planning Department for review. <br /> <br />asbestos <br />submitted <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />All testing, handling and removal of asbestos <br />containing building materials and lead paint shall be <br />performed by a certified California State licensed <br />contractor that has been certified under the <br />California occupational Safety and Health <br />Administration. <br /> <br />B. The long-term operation and <br />construction operations associated with the proposed <br />project could potentially involve the handling of <br />incidental amounts of hazardous materials, such as <br />solvents, oils, and paints. The proposed project would be <br />required to comply with local, state and federal <br />requirements regarding the handling and storage of <br />hazardous materials.
