The grant allowed funding for the Police Department's
Traffic Section to deploy a mobile, multi-media Driving Under the
Influence (D. U. I .) education and driving simulation classroom custom
designed fifth-wheel trailer. The trailer will be taken to Santa Ana
high schools, colleges, and other venues with the goal of providing an
educational program to students ages 15-22. The D.U.I. mobile
classroom will showcase an externally projected video, and feature
contemporary music and content designed to appeal to the younger
driver.

In December 2003, the City entered into an agreement with Mattman
Special ty Vehicles for the purchase of a mobile multi -media D. U. I .
classroom fifth-wheel trailer. Upon completion, the trailer requires
installation of 10 computer systems in order to be operational as a
classroom. The computers will be linked together in a network
configuration, and a computerized driving simulation software program
will allow the students to drive as if alcohol impaired within a
virtual world, giving the students experience on how motor skills are
8 affected while driving when intoxicated.

22H-1

os.
