The grant allowed funding for the Police Department's <br />Traffic Section to deploy a mobile, multi-media Driving Under the <br />Influence (D. U. I .) education and driving simulation classroom custom <br />designed fifth-wheel trailer. The trailer will be taken to Santa Ana <br />high schools, colleges, and other venues with the goal of providing an <br />educational program to students ages 15-22. The D.U.I. mobile <br />classroom will showcase an externally projected video, and feature <br />contemporary music and content designed to appeal to the younger <br />driver. <br /> <br />In December 2003, the City entered into an agreement with Mattman <br />Special ty Vehicles for the purchase of a mobile multi -media D. U. I . <br />classroom fifth-wheel trailer. Upon completion, the trailer requires <br />installation of 10 computer systems in order to be operational as a <br />classroom. The computers will be linked together in a network <br />configuration, and a computerized driving simulation software program <br />will allow the students to drive as if alcohol impaired within a <br />virtual world, giving the students experience on how motor skills are <br />8 affected while driving when intoxicated. <br /> <br />22H-1 <br /> <br />os.
