<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />1557/9/2004 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2004-048 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />SANTA ANA AUTHORIZING THE POLICE AND FIRE <br />DEPARTMENT'S TO PARTICIPATE IN "OPERATION <br />BROTHERHOOD OF THE BADGE" AND DONATE <br />SURPLUS POLICE AND FIRE EQUIPMENT TO THE <br />NEWLY ESTABLISHED GOVERNMENT OF IRAQ <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA AS <br />FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section 1. The City Council of the City of Santa Ana hereby, finds, determines and <br />declares as follows: <br /> <br />A. <br /> <br />The United States Military Police (hereinafter "USMP) are responsible for <br />training the new Iraqi Police Force. The USMP have determined there is a <br />significant need for used law enforcement ballistic vests and equipment <br />such as leather gear, flashlights, boots, uniforms, batons and helmets. <br /> <br />B. <br /> <br />Operation Brotherhood of the Badge has been implemented to allow police <br />and fire departments holding surplus or expired but serviceable equipment, <br />to donate that equipment to the government of Iraq for use by its Police <br />Force. <br /> <br />C. <br /> <br />The City of Santa Ana possesses equipment, which is no longer used by <br />the Santa Ana Police and/or Fire Departments due to age and expiration <br />dates. <br /> <br />D. <br /> <br />This non-serviceable equipment cannot be sold as surplus and is the type <br />of surplus property that would be subject to destruction by the City. <br /> <br />E. <br /> <br />The City of Santa Ana, by and through the Santa Ana Police Department <br />and the Santa Ana Fire Department, wishes to participate in Operation <br />Brotherhood of the Badge. <br /> <br />Section 2. The City Council of the City of Santa Ana hereby authorizes and directs <br />the Chief of Police and the Fire Chief or their designee(s) to participate in "Operation <br />Brotherhood of the Badge" and donate, on behalf of the City of Santa Ana, surplus or <br />expired, but serviceable ballistic vests and equipment, including leather gear, <br />flashlights, boots, uniforms, batons and helmets, to the USMP for use by the Iraqi Police <br />Force. <br /> <br />Resolution No. 2004-048 <br />Page 1 of 2 <br />
