MINUTES OF ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING <br /> OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE <br /> CITY OF SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA <br /> <br />April 13, 1971 <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order at 7:30 P.M., in the Council Chambers of <br />the City Hall Annex, 500 West Sixth Street, with the following Councilmen <br />present: Wade Herrin, VernonS. Evans, J. OgdenMarkel, JerryM. <br />Patterson, Ray Villa, Harry K. Yamamoto, and Mayor Lorin Griset. Also <br />present were City Manager Carl J. Thornton, Acting City Attorney, James <br />A. Withers, and Clerk of the Council Florence I. Malone. A representative <br />of the Press was also present. <br /> <br />CERTIFICATION OF CANVASS Clerk of the Council presented <br />OF ELECTION Certification of Canvass of <br /> Election which was completed <br />on April 9, 1971, confirming unofficial election results as follows: <br /> <br />Councilman Vernon S. Evans elected, representing Ward Z <br />Councilman Lorin Griset elected, representing Ward 4 <br />Councilman J. Ogden Markel elected representing Ward 6 <br />Councilman Harry K. Yamamoto elected, representing Ward 7 <br /> <br />Bond Proposition A carried on the following vote count: <br /> <br />YES = 8, 827 <br />NO = 8,772 <br /> <br />Bond Proposition B failed to carry on the following vote count: <br /> <br />YES = 7,844 <br />NO = 9,764 <br /> <br />Total number of ballots cast was 18,027, representing 41% of <br />registered voters. <br /> <br />Councilman Markel noted that a minor discrepancy was found in the vote count <br />during canvassing of one of the precincts, and requested clarification of this <br />point. <br /> <br />Clerk of the Council stated that in canvassing the results reported by Precinct <br />77, it was discovered that total votes reported for Proposition A %vas two over <br />the number of total ballots cast; and for Proposition B, there was one vote over <br />the number of total ballots cast; that at 10:30 A.M., on April 10, 1971, the entire <br />Board for Precinct 77 reported to the City Hall and recounted and corrected their <br />report of votes cast for Propositions A and B; that Exhibit A to Certification of <br />Canvass of Election reflects that correction. <br /> <br />The Certification of Canvass Of Election was received and ordered filed on <br />motion of Councilman Villa, seconded by Councilman Evans, and unanimously <br />carried. <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL <br /> <br />~119- <br /> <br />April 13, 1971 <br /> <br /> <br />
