<br />REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br /> <br />~ <br />~ <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br /> <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br /> <br />AUGUST 16, 2004 <br /> <br />TITLE: <br />AMENDMENT TO AGREEMENT WITH <br />UNION PACIFIC RAILROAD COMPANY <br />TO PROVIDE SIGNAL PRE-EMPTION <br />(PROJECT NO. 8670) <br /> <br />/ <br />¡ <br />//7- <br /> <br />CaßU-- <br /> <br />CITY MANAGER <br /> <br />APPROVED <br /> <br />0 As Recommended <br />0 As Amended <br />0 Ordinance on 15t Reading <br />0 Ordinance on 2nd Reading <br />0 Implementing Resolution <br />0 Set Public Hearing For <br /> <br />CONTINUED TO <br /> <br />FILE NUMBER <br /> <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br /> <br />Direct the City Attorney to prepare and authorize the City Manager and <br />Clerk of the Council to execute an amendment to the agreement with the <br />Union Pacific Railroad Company to provide signal pre-emption between the <br />railroad crossings and traffic signals on Alton Bike Trail, increasing <br />the amount by $14,861 for a total contract amount of $46,575. <br /> <br />DISCUSSION <br /> <br />In October 2002, the Public Works Agency entered into an agreement <br />with Union Pacific Railroad Company to provide railroad pre-emption <br />for the three traffic signals to be installed for Alton/Maple Bike <br />Trail at Main Street, Dyer Road and Flower Street. According to the <br />agreement Union Pacific Railroad Company will modify their railroad <br />equipment to provide the necessary railroad pre-emption to the traffic <br />signals. The City is required to reimburse Union Pacific Railroad <br />Company for the total cost of the proj ect estimated at $31,714. The <br />final cost incurred by the railroad company for the pre-emption is <br />$46,575, thus necessitating an amendment to the agreement. <br /> <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT <br /> <br />In accordance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), <br />the recommended action is not considered a CEQA project. Therefore, no <br />environmental documentation is required. <br /> <br />258-1 <br />
