REQUEST FOR
COUNCIL ACTION

CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE:
SEPTEMBER 7, 2004

CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY:

TITLE:

CONTRACT AWARD FOR
RECONDITIONED MOTOROLA PAGERS
(SPEC. NO. 04-100)

APPROVED
Q As Recommended
Q As Amended
Q Ordinance on 1 st Reading
Q Ordinance on 2nd Reading
Q Implementing Resolution
Q Set Public Hearing For

f2t?;;æ

CONTINUED TO

FILE NUMBER

CITY MANAGER

RECOMMENDED ACTION

Award a contract to Vision Communications to provide 100 reconditioned
Motorola pagers in an amount not to exceed $15,200.

DISCUSSION

The Fire Department responds to emergency situations throughout the
City. Currently, emergency responders must log information before
responding to emergency situations. In order to increase response time
efficiency, each emergency responder, including Firemen and Paramedics,
will now be assigned an alphanumeric pager. The pager will receive
incident response information at the time of dispatch. The information
will include incident type, address, and details of the incident.
Transmitting emergency response information by pager will assist in
reducing emergency response time and improve information accuracy.

The notice inviting bids was advertised on July 28 and 30, 2004, and
bids were solicited. A summary of the bid invitations and bids received
is as follows:

3 Invitations For Bid mailed
3 Bids received

Three bids were received, opened on August 10, 2004, and evaluated. Two
of the bids were found to be nonresponsive to the specification, as the
vendors did not offer a five-year pager warranty as required by the
specification. The bid received from Vision Communications is
responsive to the specification.

22K-1

CS. 383
