<br />REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br /> <br />~ <br />~ <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br /> <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br /> <br />SEPTEMBER 20, 2004 <br />TITLE: <br /> <br />APPROVED <br /> <br />o As Recommended <br />o As Amended <br />o Ordinance on 1 st Reading <br />o Ordinance on 2nd Reading <br />o Implementing Resolution <br />o Set Public Hearing For <br /> <br />AGm:EMENT FOR CABLE TV <br />CONSULTING SERVICES - <br />COMMUNICATIONS SUPPORT <br />GROUP <br /> <br />"~J <br /> <br />(2?J 1);2 <br /> <br />CITY MANAGER <br /> <br />CONTINUED TO <br /> <br />FILE NUMBER <br /> <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br /> <br />Direct the City Attorney to prepare, and authorize the City Manager and <br />Clerk of the Council to execute an agreement with Communications Support <br />Group to provide cable television franchise consulting services and <br />implementation of transition plan for Channel 3 television programming for <br />a period of one year in an amount not to exceed $80,370. <br /> <br />DISCUSSION <br /> <br />For the past fifteen years, the City of Santa Ana has contracted for cable <br />television franchise consulting services. Because the franchise agreement <br />between the City and Adelphia Communications is due to expire in February <br />2005, there are more responsibilities for the cable television franchise <br />consultant. In addition to its usual services, the consultant will <br />implement a transition plan for new areas of responsibility. The <br />transition plan includes 1) implementation of a Community Bulletin Board, <br />2) arranging for video production of City Council meetings and 3) <br />arranging for playback of City Council meetings. <br /> <br />Communication Support Group will continue to provide its standard scope of <br />services including technical support to cable programming, customer <br />service, and franchise compliance and administration. A comprehensive <br />technical performance test of the I-NET and subscriber cable systems is <br />performed on an annual basis, and an annual cable regulatory report is <br />prepared documenting overall cable company (Adelphia) activity and <br />performance. <br /> <br />258-1 <br />
