The intent of the program is to provide a stable pool of
trained poll workers on Election Day to ensure that each polling place
operates efficiently and effectively.

On September 1, 2004, the County of Orange Registrar of Voters requested
assistance from Santa Ana and other cities in this effort. The Registrar
has asked the City of Santa Ana to release City employees on Election Day
to supplement the number of County employees and other poll workers
performing election-related duties at polling stations in Orange County.

City employees who volunteer for this duty will be released from their
normal workday for election related training and Election Day duties.
They will act as volunteers for the County on Election Day and will
receive their normal workday salary. In order to volunteer, the
individuals must be in a non-safety classification and must secure
approval from their Executive Director. As there is a City initiated
ballot measure in the upcoming election, the resolution requests that the
County assign City of Santa Ana employee volunteers to polling stations
outside of the City limits for this year's general election.

550-1
