These systems allow officers to obtain critical
information quickly and in a visual format which greatly assists them in
the performance of their duties. The wireless link also enables field-
based officers to submit reports and other administrative documentation
without leaving the field, which facilitates the productivity of policing
activities.

The City's Information Services Division recommends the consolidation of
all wireless data communications services under one agreement to be
managed and administered by the Telecommunication Services unit through
the Telecommunications Services Internal Services Fund. The City
qualifies to join a competitively bid cooperative purchasing contract
under the Western States Contracting Alliance. As a member, the State of
California extends eligibility to join to cities in the state. This
contract with AT&T Wireless provides the extremely low pricing with
protections on future price increase. The City may terminate at any time,
without penalty, with 30 days notice.

250-1
