To display both the capsule and the contents at Bowers <br /> Museum; and <br /> <br />To display the capsule at Bowers Museum, but to put the <br />contents from the capsule into another capsule. <br /> <br />Councilman Markel stated that he was not in favor of opening <br />the capsule that night; that it had historical value and should <br />not be opened after a period of less than 70 years. <br /> <br />Mr. Sleeper stated that the contents of the box removed from <br />the 1904 City Hall had been revealed in 1935 after a lapse of <br />only thirty years, while thirty-seven years had elapsed since <br />the 1935 capsule had been established. <br /> <br />Mr. Sleeper proceeded to open the box by cutting through the <br />copper capsule. When the contents were revealed to him, Mr. <br />Sleeper stated that there were two packages, one from 1904 and <br />one from 1935. He removed the contents of the 1904 package, <br />and gave a description of each, as follows: <br /> <br />1. Records from the Santa Ana City Schools. <br /> <br />List of graduates from the Santa Ana High School up to <br />1903 or 1904. Also, the High School Course of Study which <br />lists all books required for each course, and the High <br />School Catalogue. <br /> <br />3. Statement regarding Santa Ana's Free Library, including <br /> all of the fines and dues, the number of books circulated. <br /> <br />Document dated May 10, 1904 concerning the laying of the <br />cornerstone. <br /> <br />5. An issue of the Santa Ana Bulletin, a democratic weekly <br /> founded in 1889 and lasting until the 1930's. <br /> <br />6. An issue of the Santa Ana Morning Dispatch, a tabloid <br /> which began late in 1908 and died 10 years later. <br /> <br />A Pamphlet from Southern Pacific indicating the various <br />communities the train went through. <br /> <br />8. An issue of the evening Santa Ana Blade. <br /> <br />9. A letter from the Chamber of Commerce (J. A. Wilson, <br /> Secretary), dated May 10, 1904. <br /> <br />10. Records from the Santa Aha Fire Department. <br /> <br />11. A booster pamphlet from the Chamber of Com~nerce. <br /> <br />12. A letter from the County Clerk, C. D. Lester. <br /> <br />13. A penny (two other pennies had been found when the time <br /> capsule had been recovered from the Old City Hal~. <br /> <br />Mr. Sleeper then removed the contents of the 1935 package, and <br />gave a description of each, as follows: <br /> <br />1. An Orange County directory. <br /> <br />2.
