COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT <br />SENIOR CITIZENS CLUB <br /> <br />presentation. <br /> <br />The Mayor acknowledged <br />the Senior Citizens Club <br />of Santa Ana, who had <br />been invited to give a <br /> <br />Mr. Mark Vogel, President, gave a brief history of the formation <br />of the group and told of some of their activities. He also <br />made a plea to Council for assistance in obtaining a new Senior <br />Citizens Recreation Center, and some kind of low-cost housing <br />for Senior Citizens. He stated that the group was so large <br />(membership of 525) that the present center on Cypress Street <br />could not accommodate their gatherings and that they were <br />ashamed to invite other Senior Citizens Clubs to Santa Ana <br />due to the poor condition of their clubhouse. <br /> <br />The Mayor stated that Council was well aware of the need of <br />Senior Citizens for low income housing and acknowledged that <br />a petition had been filed with the Housing Authority to that <br />effect; that all housing funds had been frozen and that there <br />was presently no funding available, but that efforts would <br />continue to obtain the funding. Regarding the clubhouse, the <br />Mayor stated that the City was requesting approximately <br />$300,000 from Orange County Revenue Sharing Funds for the pur- <br />pose of developing a new Senior Citizens Service Center, and <br />he requested staff to notify Mr. Vogel and other members of <br />the Senior Citizens Club of the meetings concerning the <br />Orange County Revenue Sharing Funds. (CA 9.3) <br /> <br />SPECIAL PRESENTATION The Mayor presented a <br />HUMAN RELATIONS COMMISSION Certificate of Apprecia- <br /> tion to Rae Arroyo in <br /> recognition of her ser- <br />vice to the City as a member of the Human Relations Commission. <br />(CA 131.Z) <br /> <br />PUBLIC HEARING The Mayor opened the <br />AMENDMENT APPLICATION #718 public hearing on <br />SAKIOKA Amendment Application <br /> #718 filed by Jack <br />Sakioka, Toshiki Sakioka and Johnny Sakioka to prezone property <br />located on the west side of the Newport Freeway, southeast of <br />the intersection of Grand and Warner Avenues from the M 1 <br />District (in Orange County) to the M 1 District in the City of <br />Santa Ana. <br /> <br />The Planning Director reviewed the Findings of the Planning <br />Commission dated April 23, 1973, and Planning Commission <br />Resolution No. 6032, recommending approval of the application. <br /> <br />The Clerk reported that a Certificate from the Secretary of <br />State had been received on the territory involved designated <br />as "Warner and Grand South Annexation", dated May 25, 1973. <br /> <br />Mr. Lee W. Phelps, of B. H. Miller Construction Co., 2152 <br />Dupont Drive, Irvine, representing the applicants, spoke in <br />favor of the application. <br /> <br />There were no other proponents and no opponents, and the Mayor <br />closed the public hearing. <br /> <br />The Final Environmental Impact Report for Amendment Application <br />#718 was unanimously approved and filed on a 6 0 vote on <br />motion of Councilman Yamamoto, seconded by Councilman Garthe. <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 195 JUNE 4, 1973 <br /> <br /> <br />
