Curtis & Sons for extrication equipment in the
amount of $26/272.46.

DISCUSSION

On September 15/ 2003, the City Council awarded a contract for the
purchase of a new aerial ladder truck. Ordering lead time was
approximately 12 months and the truck has an anticipated delivery of
mid-November 2004. Most of the tools and miscellaneous fire equipment
necessary to properly equip the new aerial ladder truck has been
purchased. To complete the equipment necessary for the new ladder
truck, extrication equipment is recommended for purchase.

The Fire Department currently has three Hurst extrication units in-
service. Availability ensures proper backup in the event of equipment
failure in an emergency situation. It also provides for
interchangeability and compatibility of components if repairs are
necessary. Staff has determined that L. N. Curtis & Sons is the only
sales source and service center for the Hurst extrication equipment in
California. Staff recommends purchase approval of the unit through
L.N. Curtis & Sons.

22G-1

cs. 383
