<br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br /> <br />~ <br />~ <br /> <br />REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br /> <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br /> <br />NOVEMBER 15, 2004 <br />TITLE: <br /> <br />APPROVED <br /> <br />D As Recommended <br />D As Amended <br />D Ordinance on 1 sl Reading <br />D Ordinance on 2nd Reading <br />D Implementing Resolution <br />D Set Public Hearing For <br /> <br />AMMENDMENT TO AGREEMENT A-2002-051 <br />FOR THE PURHCASE OF ADDITIONAL <br />800MHz RADIO EQUIPMENT <br /> <br /><! <br /> <br />U' / <br />ii ~ <br />C4/Zy~(~~ <br />CITY MANAGER <br /> <br />CONTINUED TO <br /> <br />FILE NUMBER <br /> <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br /> <br />Direct the City Attorney to prepare and authorize the City Manager and <br />the Clerk of the Council to execute an amendment to agreement A2002-051 <br />in the amount of $515,000 for the purchase of additional 800MHz radio <br />equipment. <br /> <br />DISCUSSION <br /> <br />On August 16, 2004, the City Council accepted a $15 million Urban Area <br />Security Initiative (UASI) grant from the federal Department of Homeland <br />Security, through the State of California, Office of Homeland Security. <br />This initiative was designed to enhance the domestic preparedness of <br />urban areas by ensuring that all emergency first responders have adequate <br />equipment and systems to prevent, respond to and recover from acts of <br />terrorism. The grant provides total reimbursement to local agencies for <br />equipment purchases approved and authorized by the federal Office of <br />Domestic Preparedness (ODP). <br /> <br />On April 15, 2002, the City Council approved a $1,000,000 agreement with <br />Motorola for the purchase of 800 Megahertz (MHz) radio equipment for <br />various city departments. An amendment increasing the amount for this <br />agreement in the amount of $113,000 was approved by Council on May 17, <br />2004 for the Fire Department. The agreement allowed the City to <br />purchase the necessary radio equipment to enhance the effectiveness of <br />police, fire, and various other agencies internal communications as well <br />as communication with other jurisdictions. <br /> <br />Following the City's acceptance of the UASI <br />radios and accessories were identified to <br />dissemination and sharing of information at <br />providing an individual radio to each responder. <br /> <br />Grant additional 800 MHz <br />facilitate "real-time" <br />an emergency scene, by <br /> <br />25K-1 <br />
