Adopt a resolution authorizing the City Manager and the Chief of <br />Police to execute a grant award agreement with the California Office <br />of Traffic Safety. <br /> <br />2. Approve an appropriation adjustment accepting and appropriating the <br />California Office of Traffic Safety Sobriety Checkpoint Program for <br />Local Law Enforcement Agencies Grant in the amount of $53,484. <br /> <br />DISCUSSION <br /> <br />The Santa Ana Police Department has been awarded a $53,484 grant from the <br />State of California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) for the Sobriety <br />Checkpoint Program for Local Law Enforcement Agencies. The goal of the <br />program is to reduce the number of victims injured or killed in alcohol <br />related crashes in participating cities. This grant funding will allow <br />the Police Department's Traffic Division to conduct sobriety checkpoints <br />during a thirteen-month period. <br /> <br />During the term of this grant, the Department will participate in three <br />statewide and nationwide "You Drink & Drive, You Lose" mobilization <br />periods. This enforcement operation specifically targets alcohol related <br />offenses during three 18-day periods from December 17, 2004, - January 3, <br />2005, August 19 - September 5, 2005, and December 16, 2005, - January 2, <br />2006. <br /> <br />20E-1 <br />
