<br />COMMUNITY AND SPECIALTY <br />RETAIL DISTRICT <br /> <br />THEME <br /> <br />An active and convenient community shopping and entertainment <br />district that provides services to the surrounding residential <br />neighborhoods. (See Exhibit 29, Community and Specialty Retail <br />District Concept.) <br /> <br />OBJECTIVES <br /> <br />. Establish a community-oriented shopping district to serve <br />surrounding neighborhoods. Activities should include a mixture of <br />convenience stores, personal services and entertainment in a <br />setting which will provide a social gathering place and be <br />convenient lor people coming by car and on foot. <br /> <br />. Create a specialty shopping area incorporating the unique <br />character 01 older Main Street structures, and aUract a wide <br />variety 01 specialty retail activities, including those which are <br />complemental)' to the adjacent Museum District. <br /> <br />. Encourage small-lot in fill development or relocated historic <br />structures on Main Street that are complementary to the <br />character and siting of existing structures. <br /> <br />. Enhance the sidewalk space on Main Street through widening, <br />additional landscaping, sidewalk canopies, streetscape <br />amenities. <br /> <br />. Encourage a more intense form of development at Seventeenth <br />and Main Streets which can be part 01 a 'gateway' for Midtown, <br />incorporating ollice towers and ground floor retail fronting Main and <br />Seventeenth Streets. <br /> <br />. Encourage activities that complement the Museum District. <br /> <br />.
