I would be <br />honored by your considerate review of my experience, skills, and training that substantiates and exemplifies <br />my qualifications to provide Career Counseling and Mental Health services to the customers at the Santa <br />Ana W /O /R /K Center who are in the process of becoming reemployed or retrained. <br />Background <br />I have enjoyed the privilege of serving in the capacity of Wellness Coordinator or Counselor at the <br />W /O /R /K Center since October 1997. This role began with the primary responsibility to help those in <br />need of and who desired personal counseling as they struggled with their unemployment status. Over the <br />years, my responsibility expanded to include Vocational Assessment, Career Counseling, and Pre- <br />employment Skills Testing. In implementing these functions, I regularly consult with appropriate Center <br />staff when necessary and with customer consent to coordinate services and optimize success. <br />Personal Counseling <br />My work has involved me in consulting with customers and staff on a variety of issues and concerns relating <br />to these areas. I have worked with and helped customers whose barriers to success have involved personal, <br />interpersonal, or behavioral issues. Some examples include high levels of stress accompanied with disabling <br />fear; marital conflict related to pressures of money, lack of work, or uncooperative support to provide <br />school /training study time; depression with suicidal thoughts and feelings; profound grief; feelings of being <br />lost, not knowing what direction to go in; feelings of being overwhelmed by a myriad of problems that their <br />unemployment only added to; and a sense of isolation; among others. There have been occasions when <br />evaluation revealed the need for outside healthcare services or other resources and referrals were made <br />accordingly. <br />Career Counseling <br />Concerning career issues, customers have presented with complaints of not having a clear idea or goal, <br />especially when their previous occupational field is diminishing, or recognizing that they are not progressing <br />in life after bouncing from one unfulfilling job to another.
