CITY OF SANA ANA
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT
Scope of Work
Annual Accomplishment Goal
I. Total number of clients anticipated to be served during the 12 -month contract period=
60 PERSONS
II. Total number of unduplicated Santa Ana residents to be served with grant funds during the
12 -month contract period = 60 PERSONS
III. Description of Work - in space below, describe the program to be funded during the 12-
month contract period including, services to be provided, program goals, client
characteristics, & how grant funds will be utilized.
The Bowers Kidseum After School Learning Center offers children in the Bowers
Museum neighborhood a safe and caring environment in which to experience rich
cultural experiences. 3 days a week, over 35 children (at a time, total enrollment
throughout the year is approx: 60 children) participate in studio art, choral music, dance,
piano, and creative writing lessons. Frequently they are treated to performances by
guest artists who teach them and entertain them with presentations on many cultures,
such as: African, Meso American, Chinese, Spanish and many others.
The children come from families whose average yearly income is extremely low to low,
by federal (HUD) guidelines. All students are white /Hispanic in race and ethnicity, with
the majority of their families having immigrated from Mexico.
It is our goal to give the children the cultural experiences that middle and upper middle
income families are financially able to provide their children. When children are
exposed to rich cultural experiences they may realize that there is a more promising
future to aspire to that may have appeared to be beyond their reach previously. We
also expect to help the children improve their grades, school attendance, and behavior
with their families, their peers and at school.
The Kidseum is located near the Orange County High School of the Arts, and although
the school is located in a predominately Hispanic area, there is an extremely low
percentage of Hispanic students enrolled at the present time. As one of our goals, we
hope to help those children in our program who are interested in attending the School of
the Arts, with the audition process.
The CDBG funds will be used for staff wages
