CITY OF SANA ANA <br />COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT <br />Scope of Work <br />Annual Accomplishment Goal <br />I. Total number of clients anticipated to be served during 12-month contract <br />period= 325 PERSONS <br />II. Number of unduplicated Santa Ana residents to be served with grant funds during the 12- <br />month contract period = 325 PERSONS <br />III. Description of Work - in space below, describe the program to be funded during the 12- <br />month contract period including, services to be provided, program goals, client <br />characteristics, & how grant funds will be utilized. <br />The Mariners Church's (Lighthouse Learning Center, hereafter LLC) primary focus is the <br />Santa Ana community, specifically the residents between Minnie Street and Standard <br />Avenue. The current target area is 0.3 square miles, however, some children and adults <br />from nearby streets participate, as well. Although the Center is available to all residents, <br />regardless of race/national origin, the current service population is 95% Hispanic and 5% <br />Cambodian. This community consists of immigrant families who are low-income, <br />uneducated, and living in overcrowded apartments; children are susceptible to gang <br />involvement, racial tension, crime, drugs, dropping out of high school, and teenage <br />pregnancy. <br />The Mariners Church (LLC) offers four formalized and rather unique programs for <br />children, teens, adults, and the community throughout the year. Through these varied <br />programs, the goals are to increase academic success, self-sufficiency and responsibility, <br />tolerance for diversity, overall preparedness for successful adulthood, and family <br />participation. Additional goals focus on the arts, leadership development and technology. <br />The following is a brief description of how grant funds will be utilized: <br />• Academics: Funds will purchase workbooks for the ls` — 6"' grade students to enhance <br />the assistance tutors are able to give the students. Workbooks focus on the <br />development of core Math and English skills. In addition, funds will be utilized for <br />children's and teen incentives for those students who are improving and/or excelling in <br />their students. <br />College Prep: The College Prep funds will provide for 30 Jr. High and High School <br />students to visit a variety of colleges and universities throughout California in April <br />2005. <br />Technolog : Funds will be used to pay a technology lab assistant who will supervise <br />our computer lab September through June, Mondays through Thursdays, 3-7 pm. The <br />technology funds will also provide for upgraded computer software for the 15 <br />computers in the Mariners Church (LLC) computer lab. <br />Arts: Funds will be used to purchase craft supplies that will be used by the children's <br />center throughout the year. In addition, CDBG funding will provide for a summer art <br />program for elementary school -aged children. <br />
