CITY OF SANA ANA <br />COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT <br />Scope of Work <br />Annual Accomplishment Goal <br />I. Total number of clients anticipated to be served during the 12-month contract period= <br />140 PERSONS <br />II. Total number of unduplicated Santa Ana residents to be served with grant funds during the <br />12-month contract period = 124 PERSONS 89% Santa Ana clients <br />III. Description of Work - in space below, describe the program to be funded during the 12- <br />month contract period including, services to be provided, program goals, client <br />characteristics, & how grant funds will be utilized. <br />The Santa Am Boxing Club serves Santa Ana teenagers and young adults by providing boxing training, academic help and character <br />education. Teius learn to box in the afternoons and during evening boors 4:30-8PM. The program rneefs at a historical boxing gym on Fourth <br />Street and Garfield <br />The Orange County Youth Commission seeks to provide caring mentors for at -risk people in hopes ofreducing juvenae delinquency. <br />We teach discipline through training and initiative and confidence through compete ve everts, and until] in young people a desire to live its <br />ethical lifestyle through our character development program. Students are encouraged to keep up with then schoolwork and offered a = help if <br />needed. Students are also taken to boxing exhibitions and special field h* to expand the& experience. It is our goal to serve 80 young people <br />through this program. <br />The clients we serve are between the ages of nine and eighteen years of age. Most of these student's parents fall into the extremely <br />low-income bracket for HUD. Generally, the students come from the local community, around the gym, but a few corn from different parts of <br />Santa Ana. All students that we serve are Hispanic or have Hispanic ethnicity. About a quarter of the young people we serve are from a single <br />parent hom , and that parent is generally the mother. <br />One of our core beliefs is that mentor relationships are the key to reach Ihcse students. The bulk ofthe grant will be used to pay for <br />our two main boxing staff, Without these two men we would not be seeing nearly the growth and effediveaess ofour club.
