REQUEST FOR
COUNCIL ACTION

CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE:
DECEMBER 20, 2004
TITLE:

CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY:

CONTRACTS RENEWAL FOR
WATER WELL REHABILITATION
(SPEC. NO. 01-143)

APPROVED
o As Recommended
o As Amended
o Ordinance on 1 st Reading
o Ordinance on 2nd Reading
o Implementing Resolution
o Set Public Hearing For

CONTINUED TO

~

FILE NUMBER

CITY MANAGER

RECOMMENDED ACTION

Renew the contracts for water well rehabilitation for a one-year period
in an annual aggregate amount not to exceed $315,000 with:

Vendor:

Location:

Orange County Pump
Layne Christensen Company
General Pump Company

Santa Ana
Fontana
San Dimas

DISCUSSION

The City currently operates 19 active water wells and seven water-
pumping stations to supply the City's drinking water. Staff has
determined that rehabilitation improves the efficiency of a majority of
the water wells and is needed to restore the wells to maximum water
production capacity. Completion of the work will result in the wells
producing more water while utilizing less electricity. To avoid
schedule conflicts and ensure rapid response, the option of three
vendors is recommended.

On December 17, 2001, the City Council awarded contracts for water well
rehabilitation to Beylik Drilling, Inc. (since acquired by Layne
Christensen Company), Orange County Pump, Layne Christensen Company and
General Pump Company for a two-year period with provision for two one-
year renewals. The vendors have performed satisfactorily during the
past contract period and have agreed to renew the contracts without an
increase in pricing. Staff recommends the final renewal of the
contracts.

228-1

cs. 383
