The stress test is potentially diagnostic for heart disease. n Bruce <br />Protocol is utilized. Metabolic testing reveals the inter -relationship of heart and <br />lungs working in tandem. It also provides filncss uuasurements. The technician will <br />spend time following the test to describe the individual's fitness, and explain the <br />uptiunnal exercise heart rates to improve cardiovascular fitness and burn fat. Oximetry <br />is performed while the individual is walking on the treadmill to monitor oxygenation <br />at peak levels of exercige. <br />Vision .Testing: The Titmus H Vision Tester is utilized. Far vision, near vision, <br />binocular vision, !stereo depth, color vision, and vertical and lateral visiun are the <br />different parameters tested. This testing is performed both with and without <br />corrective lenses so uncuxrected and corrceted results are obtained. <br />Ilodv Composition: The Body Comp Scale by American Weights and Measures is <br />utilized. A 4 page print-out is produced which includes health risk assessment. <br />Total body fat (*rcentage and weight); total body water (percentage and weight); <br />fat -free mass; caloric needs are described. <br />me Examination Results: Unless we receive a signed release from the <br />individual we are ethically bound not to release information to anyone other than the <br />individual. Therefore, all the results are scat to the individual's home, along with a <br />summation of each test by the physician. If abnormal results which need to be <br />expeditiously addressed are seen, a telephone call will be immediately placed to the <br />individual for discussion. The department receives notification as to the individual's <br />health and fitness as it relates to the performance of their duties as firefighters. Also <br />each firefighter is encouraged to return to our office to discuss the results of the <br />testing with the physician at no additional charge. <br />
