<br />WORK STUDY SESSION <br /> <br />. The FEZ offers various federal tax incentives to Empowerment Zone <br />companies <br />. Santa Ana has received $24.9 million in federal funding since 1999 <br />. Four year business plan includes investment of $11.3 million to create a <br />sustainable community; employ 5,000 Empowerment Zone residents by <br />2012; promote Federal Tax Credit Program to Empowerment Zone <br />businesses <br />. Business plan also includes Research and Development infrastructure; job <br />incubator academy, and community investment portfolio <br />. Past projects include the Delhi Community Center ($1.9 mil); Logan <br />Community Center ($350,000); Santa Ana Children's Zoo ($300,000); <br />Hands Together Center for Children <br />. Santa Ana's FEZ completed Phase I and II of the Research and <br />Development Infrastructure <br />. Identified valuable information on the skills gap and barriers to <br />employment for the Empowerment Zone residents <br />. Phase I of the Daisy Wheel Program served over 800 residents; of those <br />served, 128 were placed in jobs <br />. Through the Entrepreneurial Training Program, 127 residents were <br />enrolled in the Daisy Wheel System <br />. The Santa Ana Empowerment Corporation has authorized two grants and <br />loan funding to Santa Ana Boys and Girls club and KidWorks <br />. Any FEZ business that hires or currently employs FEZ residents may earn <br />an annual federal credit up to $3,000 per qualified employee <br />. Issued over 772 federal employment credits to over 65 Empowerment <br />Zone companies, resulting in $2.3 million in 'federal tax credit earnings <br />.
