NO. 05-013) <br /> <br />APPROVED <br />o As Recommended <br />o As Amended <br />o Ordinance on 1 st Reading <br />o Ordinance on 2nd Reading <br />o Implementing Resolution <br />o Set Public Hearing For <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />aa{Z. <br /> <br />CONTINUED TO <br /> <br />-- <br /> <br />FILE NUMBER <br /> <br />CITY MANAGER <br /> <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br /> <br />Award a contract to Allstar Fire Equipment, Inc. for the purchase of <br />fire helmets, based on the Orange County Fire Authority's contract, In <br />an annual amount not to exceed $55,000. <br /> <br />DISCUSSION <br /> <br />In an effort to protect fire suppression personnel in the performance <br />of their duty, the Fire Department Maintenance Section provides fire <br />helmets for head protection. The California Occupational Safety and <br />Health Administration (CalOSHA) and National Fire Protection Agency <br />(NFPA) mandate minimum standards for head protection. In compliance <br />with the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) requirements of five- <br />year service life, the Fire Department has established a replacement <br />schedule. The majority of the fire helmets in current use is scheduled <br />for replacement, or requires replacement due to exterior shell damage <br />and deterioration of the internal skull components. <br /> <br />Santa Ana City Ordinance No. NS-2312 authorizes the City to purchase <br />against contracts from any public agency utilizing a competitive bid <br />process. The Orange County Fire Authority contract with Allstar Fire <br />Equipment, Inc. for fire helmets was awarded as a result of open, <br />competitive bidding, and meets the City's requirements. <br /> <br />22G-1 <br /> <br />CS 383 <br /> <br />
