<br />April 12, 1977
<br />
<br />The meeting was called to order at 5:00 P.M. in the Council
<br />Chambers, 22 Civic Center Plaza, by Mayor John Garthe. The
<br />following Councilmen were present: Gordon Bricken, David F.
<br />Ortiz, Harry K. Yamamoto, Vernon S. Evans, David L. Brandt,
<br />James E. Ward and Mayor John Garthe. Also present were City
<br />Manager Bruce C. Spragg, City Attorney Keith L. Gow, and
<br />Clerk of the Council Florence I. Malone; and representatives
<br />of the Press.

<br />Group from Santa Ana. Members of the group entertained the
<br />audience with portions of a Mexican historical music and dance
<br />program that will be presented at the Santa Ana High School
<br />on April 30, at ?:30 P.M. Following the performance, Council-
<br />man Ortiz introduced Messrs. Manuel Bsqueda and Sergio O'Cadiz,
<br />board members of Relampago del Cielo. CA 9.4

<br /> of Canvass of Election,
<br /> which was completed on
<br />election results as follows:
<br />
<br />Councilman Gordon Bricken, elected by a total of 4,841
<br />votes, representing Ward 1, for a term ending April, 1981.
<br />
<br />Councilman James E. Ward, elected by a total of 4,596
<br />votes, representing Ward 3, for a term ending April, 1981.
<br />
<br />Councilman John Garthe, elected by a total of 4,71S votes,
<br />representing Ward 5, for a term ending April, 1981.
<br />
<br />Councilman Harry K. Yamamoto, elected by a total of 5,189
<br />votes, representing Ward 7, for a term ending April, 1981.
<br />
<br />The Charter Amendment to allow for the consolidation of
<br />municipal elections with other elections, and to prescribe
<br />an election date earlier than the first Tuesday in April
<br />to facilitate such consolidation, was approved with
<br />5,668 votes in favor and 865 votes against the measure.
<br />
<br />The total number of ballots cast was 7,903, representing 12-1/2%
<br />of the total number of registered voters, 62,381. CA 68
