They stated that the residents are in favor of the development of Fashion Square, but that they feel there are better ways to achieve the improved access; and that the residents had several specific requests as follows: l) That the Council go on record as formally opposing the Memory Lane overpass and that all references to it be deleted from the Master Plan and any traffic study or other study that makes reference to it; 2) To proceed immediately with the widening of Main Street; 3) Initiate a full study of the traffic patterns in the City based on objective analysis and good substantial economic development and with community input at all levels; That following the widening of Main Street, considera- tion be given to the construction of an overpass on Broadway, if needed, again utilizing community input and full disclosure from the beginning; and That citizens will support the Fashion Square develop- ment and wish to be included in the negotiations for its expansion. Redevelopment Director Richard Goblirsch stated that Montgomery Ward had asked for development of better east-west access in con- junction with their decision to move to Fashion Square; that the City has had plans for access development for a number of years; and that the City would like to be able to deliver on this commitment if possible.
