NS-1424 ADOPTED <br />BUILDING SECURITY INSPECT--~ - <br />CONTINUED <br /> <br />Mayor Evans announced <br />that this was the time <br />and place for the public <br />hearing of the proposed <br />Building Security Ordin- <br /> <br />Police Chief Raymond C. Davis stated that the proposed ordinance <br />is the culmination of several years of study throughout the <br />nation; that an integral part of the Community Oriented Policing <br />Program is to bring an awareness to citizens of the precautions <br />that are necessary, such as upgrading their locks; that the <br />ordinance requires builders of new structures, or people doing <br />major remodeling of existing buildings, to install security <br />devices; that the proposed ordinance is based on a model recom- <br />mended by the California State Crime Prevention Commission, <br />but provides more flexibility; that the builder's installation <br />cost for the average four-bedroom dwelling unit would be $82 <br />compared to a range of $205 to $512 for homeowner installation <br />after construction; and that several cities have this ordinance <br />while others are moving toward it to make buildings more resis- <br />tant to crime. <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 211 JUNE 5, 1978 <br /> <br /> <br />
