ORAL REPORT Councilman Brandt announced <br />TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE MEETING that he attended the National <br />NATIONAL LEAGUE OF CITIES League of Cities Transporta- <br /> tion Committee Meeting <br />Friday and Saturday; that one of the major items discussed was <br />the 504 regulations which provide that public transportation <br />systems must be totally available to all handicapped <br />persons; and that if the regulations are approved as presented <br />it would be extremely expensive to meet the required provisions, <br />and, if met, would result in significantly increased bus fares, <br />with a significant decrease in service. CA 148; CA 84 <br /> <br />ZOO OPERATION SUGGESTIONS Two letters dated July 6, <br />FRIENDS OF CHILDREN'S ZOO 1978, signed by Mildred <br />REFERRED TO BOARD OF REC. & PARKS Cobb, President of Friends <br /> of the Children's Zoo, <br />making suggestions and recommendations for the administration <br />and operation of the Prentice Park Zoo, were referred to the <br />Board of Recreation and Parks, on the unanimously carried 7:0 <br />motion of Councilman Garthe, seconded by Councilman Brandt. <br /> CA 52.3 <br /> <br />POLICE CHIEF ATTENDANCE The Chief of Police, <br />AT POLICE EXECUTIVE INSTITUTE Raymond Davis, was granted <br />AUTHORIZED leave for two weeks, <br /> October 18 through <br />November 1, 1978, to attend a Police Executive Institute in <br />Europe; the expenditure of $700 for tuition was also authorized, <br />on the unanimously carried 7:0 motion of Councilman Garthe, <br />seconded by Councilman Ortiz. NS-1434 - 1ST READING <br /> <br />Budget for the fiscal year 1978-79. <br /> <br />Mayor Evans announced that <br />this was the time and place <br />for the public hearing <br />of the proposed Annual <br /> <br />City Manager Bruce Spragg summarized the report dated July 12, <br />1978 prepared by Dennis Yata, Management Analyst, announcing <br />that a Revised Summary of the Budget information had been pre- <br />pared; that the Summary contains the changes made by Council <br />during the budget study sessions; that the tofal budget is now <br />$64,308,235, which is a 5% reduction of 3.3 million from the <br />67 million dollar budget of last year; that also provided is a <br />list of the capital projects over $5,000 cut from the budget, <br />with projects smaller than $5,000 being lumped together for a <br />total capital outlay reduction of $761,000; that the summary <br />contains a list of the 51 positions that are proposed to be <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES <br /> <br />302 JULY 17, 1978 <br /> <br /> <br />
