Prior to the vote on the main <br />motion, an amendment made by Councilman Ward, seconded by Coun- <br />cilman Brandt, to direct Staff to work with the Santa Ana Neigh- <br />borhood Organizations, the Variance Applicants and the City of <br />Garden Grove to relocate the existing auto dismantling business <br />failed to carry on a 2:4 vote, with Mayor Evans, and Councilmen <br />Garthe, Yamamoto and Ortiz dissenting. J. Thompson, dated October 16, 1978, that he would <br />recommend that the City grant the request of the Fire Chief of <br />Tecate and donate a surplus 1954 Seagrave pumper engine (Equip- <br />ment #41-06) to the City of Tecate, Mexico; that the salvage <br />value to the City is less than $1,500; and that there are 40,000 <br />residents of the City of Tecate who have no fire fighting equip- <br />ment. The recommendation was approved on the motion of Council- <br />man Brandt, seconded by Councilman Garthe, and carried 6:1, with <br />Mayor Evans dissenting.
