A) Rehabilitation of an Art Training Center ($18,000) <br />B) Construction of a Safety Fence along Amtrak/Santa Fe <br /> tracks ($8,000) <br />C) Rehabilitation of an Emergency Housing Shelter for <br /> Alcoholic Women ($13,000) <br /> <br />The Community Development Coordinator presented the staff report and <br />recommendations. <br /> <br />The Clerk of the Council reported there were no written communications. <br /> <br />The following people spoke in favor of rehabilitation of an art training <br />center located in the Grants Building: <br /> <br />Bill Hernandez, 800 E. Ocean Boulevard, Long Beach <br />Mary Lou Wheeler, Friendly Center <br /> <br />The following people spoke in favor of the safety fence along a portion of <br />the Amtrak/Santa Fe railroad tracks: <br /> <br />Josephine Andrade, 935 Logan Street <br />Samuel Romero, 2034 South Spruce Street <br /> <br />The following people spoke in favor of the rehabilitation of an emergency <br />housing shelter for alcoholic women (Villa Recovery Home): <br /> <br />Doris LaMagna, 910 N. French <br /> <br />There were no other speakers on the matter. The Mayor closed the public <br />hearing. <br /> <br />Following discussion, MOTION was made by Bricken, seconded by Serrato, <br />to amend the agreement with Friendly Center, Inc., defining the use of <br />CDBG funds for rehabilitation of the Grants Building for an Art Training <br />Center, and authorize execution by the Mayor and Clerk. <br /> <br />Motion passed on the following vote: <br /> <br />AYES: <br />NOES: <br />ABSENT: <br /> <br />Bricken, Griset, Luxembourger, Markel, Serrato, Ward <br />Yamamoto <br />None <br /> <br />MOTION was made by Bricken, seconded by Griset, to approve the following: <br /> <br />1) <br /> <br />Authorize Community Development Block Grant <br />Contingency funds in the amount of $8,000, to be <br />used to construct a safety fence along the Amtrak/ <br />Santa Fe tracks. <br /> <br />2) <br /> <br />Approve Appropriation Adjustment No. 96 transferring <br />$8,000 from 135-149-Project 7046 - Community Develop- <br />ment Contingencies to 135-149-Project 7263 - Amtrak/ <br />Santa Fe Safety Fence. <br /> <br />3) Authorize advertisement for bids for Project 7263, <br /> Amtrak/Santa Fe Safety Fence. <br /> <br />Motion passed on the following vote: <br /> <br />AYES: <br /> <br />NOES: <br />ABSENT: <br /> <br />Bricken, Griset, Luxembourger, Markel, Serrato, <br /> Ward, Yamamoto <br />None <br />None <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 385 NOVEMBER 17, 1980 <br /> <br /> <br />
