<br />Industry
<br />
<br />There are over 3,000 acres in the city limits zoned
<br />for industry. More than 400 manufacturing plants
<br />are located within the city with employment ranging
<br />from 25 to over 1,000. Leading classes of industry
<br />include electrical and electronic equipment, fabri-
<br />cated metal products, sporting goods, office equip-
<br />ment, and aircraft and space vehicle components,
<br />Principal manufacturing firms include lIT Cannon
<br />Electric, with 2,000 employees, engaged in the man-
<br />ufacture of electrical connectors; and AMF Voit
<br />(over 1,000 employees), manufacturer of sporting
<br />goods.
<br />Other major employers manufacture principally
<br />precision metal parts, aerospace components, com-
<br />puters, pharmaceutical and medical supplies and
<br />sports and leisure products.
<br />Established industrial areas in the city include
<br />Industrial Park, Industrial Village, Industrial Mart,
<br />Industrial Plaza, and Segerstrom Industrial District.
<br />The $50 million Orange County Industrial Center,
<br />opened in late 1973, comprises 137 acres in Santa
<br />Ana and 83 acres in adjacent Costa Mesa, and is
<br />being developed to attract firms in light manufactur-
<br />ing, dislribution, and research and development.
<br />
<br />Commerce
<br />
<br />Retail merchandising is a major factor in the city's
<br />economy, The city serves as a major commercial and
<br />marketing center for a large portion of Orange
<br />County.
<br />In addition to the downtown business district,
<br />Santa Ana has six major shopping areas, including
<br />such stores as Buffum's, Bullock's, Wards, Sears,
<br />and I. Magnin, The Fashion Square and Honer
<br />Plaza shopping centers offer more than 50 specialty
<br />stores,
<br />The 44-acre Bristol Town and Country Center
<br />opened in December 1973, The master plan for this
<br />development includes 65 specialty stores, two medi-
<br />cal-dental buildings, a children's clinic, and a four-
<br />story professional building, South Coast Village, an
<br />85-store, 16-acre shopping complex, is located in the
<br />southern part of the city,
