MINUTES OF THE ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING <br />OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br /> SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA <br /> <br />March 10, 1981 <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order at 5:04 p.m. by Mayor Ward in the City <br />Council Chambers, 22 Civic Center Plaza. Councilmembers present were <br />Gordon Bricken, Daniel E. Griset, Robert W. Luxembourger, J. Ogden <br />Markel, Harry K. Yamamoto, and Mayor James E. Ward. City Manager A. J. <br />Wilson, City Attorney Edward J. Cooper, and Clerk of the Council Janice C. <br />Guy were also present. Councilman Serrato was absent. <br /> <br />INVOCATION <br />PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE <br /> <br />Following the Pledge of Allegiance <br />to the Flag, the Invocation was <br />given by Councilman Gordon Bricken. <br /> <br />CERTIFICATION OF CANVASS <br />OF ELECTION <br /> <br />election results as follows: <br /> <br />Clerk of the Council Janice C. Guy <br />presented to the Council her <br />Certificate of Canvass completed <br />March 6, 1981, confirming the <br /> <br />Gordon Bricken elected to represent Ward I by a total <br />of 5,744 votes for the term ending April 9, 1985. <br /> <br />John Acosta elected to represent Ward 3 by a total of <br />3,482 votes for the term ending April 9, 1985. <br /> <br />Daniel E. Griset elected to represent Ward 5 by a total <br />of 5,763 votes for the term ending April 9, 1985. <br /> <br />Patricia A. McGuigan elected to represent Ward 7 by a <br />total of 5,362 votes for the term ending April 9, 1985. <br /> <br />James A. Richards elected to the office of Member of the <br />Governing Board of the Santa Aha Unified School District <br />by a total of 2,363 votes to complete an unexpired term <br />ending November 27, 1981. <br /> <br />The total number of ballots cast was 8,658, representing 12.9% of the total <br />number of registered voters, 67,031. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 81-34 <br />ELECTION RESULTS <br />ADOPTED <br /> <br />MOTION was made by Yamamoto, <br />seconded by Bricken, to adopt <br />the following resolution: <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 81-34 - A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY <br />COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA DECLARING THE <br />RESULTS OF THE 1981 GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION <br />AND A SPECIAL ELECTION OF THE SANTA ANA UNIFIED <br />SCHOOL DISTRICT. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Santa Ana did, by <br />Ordinance NS-1560, dated December 8, 1980, call for a general municipal <br />election to be held in the City of Santa Ana on March 3, 1981, to fill <br />the offices of members of the said Council to be nominated from Wards <br />One, Three, Five, and Seven of the City of Santa Ana; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, a special election of the Santa Ana Unified School <br />District, called to be held on March 3, 1981, was consolidated with <br />the said general municipal election pursuant to Resolution No. 80-216, <br />dated December 8, 1980, of this Council; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this Council did, by its Resolution No. 80-218, dated <br />December 8, 1980, direct the Clerk of the Council to canvass the returns <br />of the said consolidated election pursuant to Section 22932.5 of the <br />Elections Code of the State of California; and <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES <br /> <br />74 MARCH 10, 1981 <br /> <br /> <br />
