MINUTES OF THE ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING <br />OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br /> SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA <br /> <br />April 14, 1981 <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m., by Mayor Ward in the City <br />Council Chambers, 22 Civic Center Plaza. Councilmembers present were <br />Gordon Bricken, Robert W. Luxembourger, J. Ogden Markel, A1 fred C. <br />Serrato, Harry K. Yamamoto, and Mayor James E. Ward. Councilmembers-elect <br />John Acosta and Patricia McGuigan were also present as were City Manager <br />A. J. Wilson, City Attorney Edward J. Cooper, and Clerk of the Council <br />Janice C. Guy. <br /> <br />INVOCATION <br />PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE <br /> <br />Following the Pledge of Allegiance <br />to the Flag led by Councilmember <br />Serrato, the Invocation was given <br />by Councilmember J. Ogden Markel. <br /> <br />PRESENTATIONS BY RETIRING <br />COUNCILMEMBER YAMAMOTO AND MAYOR WARD <br /> <br />families and reflected on their years of <br /> <br /> Councilmember Harry K. Yamamoto <br />and Mayor James E. Ward, respectively <br />addressed Council and the audience; <br />each introduced men~bers of their <br />service to the City of Santa Ana. <br /> <br />ADJOURNMENT SINE DIE <br /> <br />Mayor Ward adjourned the meeting <br />sine die and turned the chair over <br />to the Clerk of the Council. <br /> <br />ROLL CALL The Clerk of the Council called the <br />INSTALLATION OF NEWLY-ELECTED roll and administered the Oath of <br />COUNCILM~MBERS Office to incumbent Councilmembers <br /> Gordon Bricken and Daniel Griset, <br />followed by administration of the Oath of Office to new Councilmembers John <br />Acosta and Patricia McGuigan. The new Councilmembers then took their places <br />at the Council dais and retiring Councilmembers Ward and Yamamoto stepped down. <br /> <br />ELECTION OF MAYOR <br /> <br />by Luxembourger to close the nominations. <br /> <br />The Clerk of the Council accepted <br />the nomination by Luxem~ourger <br />of Gordon Bricken as Mayor. MOTION <br />was then made by Griset, seconded <br /> <br />Motion by Markel to nominate Robert Luxembourger as Mayor died for lack of a <br />second. <br /> <br />Original motion to close the nominations passed on the following vote: <br /> <br />AYES: <br />NOES: <br />ABSENT: <br /> <br />Acosta, Bricken, Griset, Luxembourger, McGuigan, Serrato <br />Markel <br />None <br /> <br />Councilmember Markel then withdrew his motion. <br /> <br />Councilmember Bricken was elected Ma.vor by acclamation. <br /> <br />CHAIR PASSED TO MAYOR BY CLERK <br /> <br />The Clerk of the Council turned the <br />meeting over to Mayor Bricken. <br /> <br />ELECTION OF VICE MAYOR <br /> <br />Acosta to close the nominations. <br /> <br />The Mayor accepted the nomination <br />by Griset of Robert Luxembourger <br />as Vice Mayor.
