<br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br /> <br />~ <br />~ <br /> <br />REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br /> <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br /> <br />APRIL 18, 2005 <br />TITLE: <br /> <br />APPROVED <br /> <br />0 As Recommended <br />0 As Amended <br />0 Ordinance on 151 Reading <br />0 Ordinance on 2nd Reading <br />0 Implementing Resolution <br />0 Set Public Hearing For <br /> <br />APPROPRIATION ADJUSTMENT <br />FOR ADDITIONAL WORKFORCE <br />INVESTMENT ACT FUNDS <br /> <br />rlß2a~--- <br />C TV MANÅGER <br /> <br />CONTINUED TO <br /> <br />FILE NUMBER <br /> <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br /> <br />Approve an Appropriation Adjustment accepting State of California <br />Workforce Investment Act (WIA) funds in the amount of $92,555 into revenue <br />account (account no. 123-01-5350) and appropriate the same to various <br />expenditure accounts (account nos. 123-147-6221, 123-157-6221, and 123-156 <br />various) for WI A related programs. <br /> <br />DISCUSSION <br /> <br />The State of California has awarded $89,064 in Workforce Investment Act <br />(WIA) funds for the 2004-05 Rapid Response program, which provides funding <br />to provide assistance ~o companies within Santa Ana who are downsizing or <br />closing their facilities. These funds will be used to provide services <br />through the One-Stop Center including information and outplacement, <br />transitional services for employers and laid-off workers, financial <br />packages and options to be considered by the affected workers and <br />information on training opportunities. <br /> <br />The State also provides WIA Incentive Award funds to local areas for <br />exemplary performance in meeting their performance goals. The Santa Ana <br />Workforce Investment Board (WI B) has been awarded two Incentive Awards, <br />totaling $3,493, for exceeding performance goals for the past two fiscal <br />years. These funds will be used to cover WIB administrative expenses such <br />as orientation sessions, on-going technical assistance, and capacity <br />building. <br /> <br />20A-1 <br />
