<br />REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br /> <br />~ <br />~ <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br /> <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br /> <br />APRIL 18, 2005 <br /> <br />TITLE: <br /> <br />APPROVED <br /> <br />AGREEMENT WITH COUNTY OF <br />ORANGE SOCIAL SERVICES <br />AGENCY FOR WELFARE-TO-WORK <br />EMPLOYMENT SERVICES PROGRAMS <br /> <br />C.f6)a--- <br /> <br />CITY MANAGER <br /> <br />0 As Recommended <br />0 As Amended <br />0 Ordinance on 1 st Reading <br />0 Ordinance on 2nd Reading <br />0 Implementing Resolution <br />0 Set Public Hearing For <br /> <br />CONTINUED TO <br /> <br />FILE NUMBER <br /> <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br /> <br />Direct the City Attorney to prepare and authorize the City Manager and <br />the Clerk of the Council to execute an agreement with the County of <br />Orange Social Services Agency to accept funding in the amount of $497,671 <br />for a Cormnuni ty Services Program and a Work Experience Program to be <br />operated by the Santa Ana W/O/R/K Center. <br /> <br />DISCUSSION <br /> <br />For the past four years, the Santa Ana W/O/R/K Center has received <br />funding from the County of Orange Social Services Agency to operate a <br />Cormnunity Services Program (CSP). The Social Services Agency (SSA) has <br />awarded the W/O/R/K Center $78,911 to continue providing services to <br />CalWORKs recipients who have reached their maximum time limit on public <br />assistance and remain unemployed. For the past two years, SSA has funded <br />a work experience program to provide subsidized employment to CalWORKs <br />participants. SSA has awarded the W/O/R/K Center $418,760 to continue <br />the Work Experience Program. This program will assist CalWORKs <br />participants to develop skills that will enable them to find and retain <br />stable employment. Both of these programs have been very successful and <br />staff recormnends that they be continued. <br /> <br />25C-1 <br />
