<br />REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br /> <br />~ <br />~ <br /> <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br /> <br />MAY 2, 2005 <br /> <br />TITLE: <br /> <br />APPROVED <br /> <br />o As Recommended <br />o As Amended <br />o Ordinance on 151 Reading <br />o Ordinance on 2nd Reading <br />o Implementing Resolution <br />o Set Public Hearing For <br /> <br />AGREEMENT FOR A MOBILE <br />DATA COMPUTER SYSTEM <br /> <br />QJl;a~ <br /> <br />CITY MANAGER <br /> <br />CONTINUED TO <br /> <br /> <br />----- <br /> <br />FILE NUMBER <br /> <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br /> <br />Direct the City Attorney to prepare and authorize the City Manager and <br />the Clerk of the Council to execute an agreement with Motorola, Inc. in <br />an amount not to exceed $1,406,530 for the purchase of a mobile data <br />computer system. <br /> <br />DISCUSSION <br /> <br />On August 16, 2004, the City Council accepted a $15 million Urban Area <br />Security Initiative grant from the federal Department of Homeland <br />Security, through the State of California, Office of Homeland Security. <br />This ini tiati ve was designed to enhance the domestic preparedness of <br />urban areas by ensuring that all emergency first responders have adequate <br />equipment and systems to prevent, respond to and recover from acts of <br />terrorism. The grant provides total reimbursement to local agencies for <br />equipment purchases approved and authorized by the federal Office of <br />Domestic Preparedness. <br /> <br />On March 3, 2005 the Fire Department issued a Request for Proposal for a <br />mobile data computer system in order to enhance access and connectivity <br />to critical data. The system provides access to information such as the <br />computer aided dispatch, the records management system, and the <br />geographic information systems to emergency first responders via a <br />wireless mechanism. <br /> <br />Request for Proposals were sent to fourteen potential vendors and three <br />proposals were received. The proposals were reviewed, evaluated and <br />rated on criteria including solution provided, expertise, and total <br />integration.
