MIS~F~S OF T~ ~ MEETING <br />OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />SANTA AHa, CALIFCRNIA <br /> <br />December 19, 1983 <br /> <br />The meeting was informally convened at 1:32 p.m., in Room 147, City <br />Council Chambers, 22 Civic Center Plaza. Councilmembers present were John <br />Acosta, Gordo~ Bricken, P. Lee Johnson, Patricia A. McGuigan, and Mayor <br />R. W. Luxembourger. Also present were Interim City Manager Rex Swanson, <br />City Attorney Edward J. Cooper, and Clerk of the Council Janice C. Guy, as <br />well as members of the City's Executive Management staff and the press. <br />Councilmembers Dan Young and Daniel E. Griset joined the meeting at <br />1:39 p.m., and 2:35 p.m., respectively. <br /> <br />$INGO ~RDIkm~NCE IMPACTS <br /> <br />The Police Chief gave a status report on the iapacts of the bingo <br />ordinance adopted by Santa Ana, explaining bingo was a lucrative business, <br />totalling more than $6,~ ,000 in gross receipts in the City, and provided <br />a few brief statistics regarding specific bingo operations. He stated <br />that the ordinance was effective and permitted better control by the <br />City. He indicated his department wouldbe in need ofmore audit <br />capability in the near future, if the department were to be successful in <br />checking for adherence to the law. <br /> <br />The Director of Recreation and Parks gave a slide presentation depicting <br />improvements which had been made to the Santa Ana-Eddie West Field, <br />including improved lighting, landscaping and playing surface. He <br />indicated improvements to the parking lot had been minimal, pending <br />completion of a 15-year plan for the Civic Center. He also indicated <br />purchase of more modern equipment had permitted more effective and <br />efficient maintenance of the facility. The Director discussed planned <br />landscaping improvements including fencing, a new concession stand and <br />major monument sign for the facility. <br /> <br />He then responded to Councilmembers' questions. Councilmember Bricken <br />requested that staff provide costs relative to facing the Flower Street <br />side of the Stadium with a brick veneer, and Councilmember Young requested <br />that staff provide costs relative to painting the facility. <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 386 DECf~ER 19, 1983 <br /> <br /> <br />
