NO. 05-043) <br /> <br />APPROVED <br />o As Recommended <br />o As Amended <br />o Ordinance on 1 st Reading <br />o Ordinance on 2nd Reading <br />o Implementing Resolution <br />o Set Public Hearing For <br /> <br />r <br /> <br />Mtt~~C2A-~ <br /> <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />CONTINUED TO <br /> <br />FILE NUMBER <br /> <br />CITY MANAGER <br /> <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br /> <br />Award a contract to Lake Chevrolet for the purchase of a tow vehicle <br />with electronic equipment in the amount of $49,687.97. <br /> <br />DISCUSSION <br /> <br />On August 16, 2004, the City Council accepted a $15 million Urban Area <br />Security Initiative grant from the federal Department of Homeland <br />Security, through the State of California, Office of Homeland Security. <br />This initiative was designed to enhance the domestic preparedness of <br />urban areas by ensuring that all emergency first responders have <br />adequate equipment and systems to prevent, respond to and recover from <br />acts of terrorism. The grant provides total reimbursement to local <br />agencies for equipment purchases approved and authorized by the Office <br />of Disaster Preparedness. <br /> <br />The Police Department requires a tow vehicle that will be used to move <br />the Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) equipment trailers. The tow <br />vehicle will be equipped with emergency response equipment, red lights <br />and siren, allowing it to respond to a WMD event or a terrorist <br />incident occurring within the Santa Ana Urban area. <br /> <br />The notice inviting bids was advertised on April 13 and 15, <br />bids were solicited.
