<br />Fifteen Percent Governor's WIA <br />and Wagner-Peyser Act Grant <br />June 6, 2005 <br />Page 2 <br /> <br />Academia, and various colleges will establish a program to enhance <br />workforce development services for Santa Ana and Anaheim residents who <br />have been dislocated from the manufacturing industry. This employment and <br />retraining program will help minority low-income participants build <br />workplace literacy and technical skills. The project is designed to link <br />training opportunities provided by both public and private agencies and to <br />increase participants' wage gaining potential. The project will enhance <br />the self-sufficiency of the target group with the ultimate goal of meeting <br />employer needs for a skilled workforce, which in turn will help revitalize <br />the region's economy. <br /> <br />This grant is authorized for an 18-month period from March 1, 2005, <br />through August 31, 2006. A total of 125 Spanish-speaking individuals from <br />Santa Ana and Anaheim will receive assistance in improving their workplace <br />li teracy and technical skills. The Santa Ana W/O/R/K Center and the <br />Anaheim Workforce Center will provide case management, supportive <br />services, assessment, referrals to training, job placement and job <br />retention services. The Academia will provide Vocational English as a <br />Second Language classes, computer and manufacturing training as well as <br />industry specific training.
