NO. 05-070) <br /> <br />APPROVED <br />o As ReGommended <br />o As Amended <br />o Ordinance on 1 st Reading <br />o Ordinance on 2nd Reading <br />o Implementing Resolution <br />o Set Public Hearing For <br /> <br />f <br /> <br />C~/iJ(2,,- <br /> <br />CONTINUED TO <br /> <br />FILE NUMBER <br /> <br />CITY MANAGER <br /> <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br /> <br />Authorize payment to South Coast Roof, Inc. for roof repair in the <br />amount of $13,604.50. <br /> <br />DISCUSSION <br /> <br />Fire Station No. 2 was built in 1966 and currently houses three <br />firefighters 24 hours a day. Fire Station No. 5 was built in 1951 and <br />houses nine firefighters 24 hours a day. Over a period of four <br />consecutive days ending January 12, 2005, the City received more than <br />six inches of continuous rain. During that time, major roof leaks <br />developed causing severe damage to the living spaces at both stations. <br /> <br />To prevent further damage to the structures, South Coast Roof, Inc. was <br />authorized to make emergency repairs. Due to the condition of the 18- <br />year old roof at Station 5, it was more cost effective to replace than <br />repair it.
