MINUTES OF THE REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING <br />OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA <br /> <br />July 2, 1984 <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order at 1:15 p.m. by Mayor R. W. <br />Luxembourger in Room 510, City Hall, 20 Civic Center Plaza. Council- <br />members present were John Acosta, Daniel E. Griset, Patricia A. <br />McGuigan, Dan Young, and Mayor Luxembourger. Also present were City <br />Manager Robert C. Bobb, City Attorney Edward J. Cooper, Clerk of the <br />Council Janice C. Guy, members of staff, the public and the press. <br />Councilmembers P. Lee Johnson and Gordon Bricken joined the meeting at <br />1:35 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. respectively. <br /> <br />The City Manager introduced Laurie Cottrell, the City's new Director <br />of Communications, and briefly explained her qualifications for the <br />position. <br /> <br />WORK STUDY SESSION <br /> <br />RECREATION AND PARKS BUDGET <br /> <br />The Executive Director of Cultural, Recreation and Community Services <br />presented slides depicting activities of the Department, charts demon- <br />strating growth of the departmental budget, attendance at facilities, <br />revenues and staffing; and briefly mentioned areas his Department <br />would emphasize in the 1984-85 budget, including seeking accreditation <br />for the Santa Ana Zoo. He then responded to Councilmembers' questions <br />concerning the Department's budget. <br /> <br />LIBRARY BUDGET <br /> <br />The Library Director provided statistics to the Council demonstrating <br />that Santa Ana libraries have the lowest per capita financial support <br />and second lowest per capita book expenditures in Orange County. He <br />briefly reviewed the Department's budget, mentioning that the <br />computerized library system was 90% complete and that a master plan <br />for the library was needed. <br /> <br />The City Manager recommended that the Council appoint a committee with <br />representatives from the Friends of the Library, the Santa Aha Unified <br />School District, Santa Ana College, and the Business Community to <br />assist with development of such a master plan. <br /> <br />The Library Director responded to Councilmembers' questions on his <br />budget. <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING 246 JULY 2, 1984 <br /> <br /> <br />
