He then responded to Councilmembers' <br />questions. <br /> <br />Design Charrette <br /> <br />The Executive Director of Coa~nunity Development and Housing explained <br />to the Council the process which had taken place regarding a design <br />charrette for South Main Street, indicating 19 teams had worked on <br />creative solutions to area problems and had produced n~nerous ideas <br />for the improvement of the area. He expressed the opinion that the <br />event had been very successful and had the approval of the Orange <br />County Division of the American Institute of Architects. <br /> <br />Councilmember Young expressed his interest in a study session on the <br />plans produced by the charrette competitors, requesting staff analyze <br />and present ideas which might be implemented to the Council. He also <br />requested that the campetition results be copied and compiled into a <br />booklet for distribution to the Council and to the South Main <br />Improvement Association, as well as the charrette entrants. <br /> <br />The City Manager requested that the next time a charrette was con- <br />ducted that the winners be requested to explain their design concepts <br />in a public forem.
