COMMENTS <br />• Invited residents to participate in planting trees on June 18th at the <br />intersection of the Santa Ana River and West McFadden Blvd <br />• Requested that staff revisit the City's visions and goals which were <br />established in 1998 <br />Councilmember Solorio <br />• Invited citizens to attend the McFadden Reforestation Project event on <br />June 18th <br />• Congratulated Ron Ono in Parks and Recreation Agency for his efforts <br />on behalf of the City in the community <br />Councilmember Christy <br />• Congratulated Joe Fletcher, City Attorney on the occasion of his <br />birthday <br />• Congratulated Fairhaven Cemetery for the emotional Memorial Day <br />Celebration <br />• Noted that the Orange County High School of the Arts season finale <br />performance was a very successful event <br />• Invited members of the community to attend the Junteenth Celebration <br />sponsored by the NAACP at Thornton Park on June 11th, <br />• Requested Chief Walters to discuss concerns about the upcoming <br />summer season; particularly with respect to parties with live amplified <br />music. Chief Walters noted that an ordinance was passed a few years <br />ago allowing police officers to cite for loud music without a formal <br />complaint from the public. He encouraged the public to contact the <br />police immediately regarding loud music. During the summer, a <br />special team of police officers is designated to respond to these types <br />of calls. <br />• Requested Chief Garcia to discuss concerns about the Fourth of July <br />Fireworks. Chief Garcia responded that there are 77 booths <br />authorized to sell fireworks this year. He noted that the fireworks <br />purchased must be marked safe and sane. <br />Mayor Pro Tern Bist <br />• Noted that she has seen an increase in shopping carts in the City: and <br />requested staff to review the City of Los Angeles shopping cart <br />ordinance; she further noted that there is a need to educate residents <br />regarding the costs related to retrieval of shopping carts. <br />• Thanked Councilmember Alberta Christy, as the City's representative <br />on the Sanitation Board, for fighting the increase in sanitation fees, <br />even though the Sanitation Board approved the rate increase <br />• Congratulated Beth Burns of the St. Joseph Ballet for all her efforts in <br />creating this very successful program and noted that Beth was leaving; <br />she wished her continued success in her future endeavors <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 205 JUNE 6, 2005 <br />
