Description of Work - in space below, describe the program to be funded during the 12- <br />month contract period including, services to be provided, program goals, client <br />characteristics, & how grant funds will be utilized. <br />The Kids On Track... through Mentoring Program matches at -risk 3"', a and 5'" grade students with qualified high <br />school students who are trained as mentors. Through a behavioral life skills training; proq.css, they arc provided with: <br />comprehensive training in conflict resolution skills, positive youth development activities, and recognition i'or making: <br />good choices. Key teen mentors are given the opportunity to become "Ambassadors of Pence." "file program will <br />match 60 Santa Ana youth: 30 high school students ( "mentors') with 30 at -risk Kennedy IJemernary School 3 "', 4" and <br />51" grade students ( "menices "), and train them in conflict resolution and asset - building, %%hile providing youth -to -vouch <br />mentoring and recreation in an after- school environment. <br />The 60+ mentors and mentees will be provided with 25 hours of certified Conflict Resolution Training, as well as <br />weekly Youth Asset Building sessions, The training/mcntorin- sessions will be conducted on a weekly basis <br />throughout the school year. Key teaching strategies of the training include hand:ron activities, role-playing, gronp <br />brainstorming, and cooperative activities. Each class will last for 3 U2 hours, during which time students wilt also he <br />fed nutritious snacks, anti will have at least 30 minutes of "fun time" together (i.e. basko[,all, handball, games, etc.). <br />Since academic achievement is also a priority, the mentce% have one hour of tutored -homework time" during each <br />,session, before the mentors arrive, The City of Santa Ana CL)BG funds will be used err support direct program expenses <br />only, including program staff salaries, supplies, special events, and local mileage.
