aProposal - Project Understanding and scope -of -Mork 1-56
RD -1 thru RD -11 Record Drawings W -66, Sheets 1 through 11, dated
10/15/1962, James M. Montgomery, Consulting Engineer
The pumping station, pumps, motor, piping and valves will be housed in a masonry block
building. The building will also house auxiliary equipment and systems such as electrical
and control panels; and a sodium hypochlorite disinfection system.
A constant speed, line -shaft vertical turbine pump will be designed to meet the
requirements of ANSUAWWA E101 (AWWA Standard for Vertical Turbine Pumps —
Line Shaft and Submersible Type) and the Hydraulic Institute Pump Standards. Pump
selection will consider the pump station characteristics, demand, to determine the
appropriate pump capacity. The target design capacity of the pump station is 2,500
gallons per minute.
The pump station piping will utilize the existing piping system to the extent posible
including the pump control valves: on the discharge pipeline and on the startup (flow
bypass) pipeline that will discharge through a new pipeline and connect to the local
storm drain.
The scope will be based on using the SCE electrical power supply to the City's West
Pump Station. Metcalf & Eddy will provide voltage and load calculations and will
coordinate efforts for SCE to provide the transformer, meter and service panel and
activate electrical service to the station.
The proposed design will provide technical speci*.icaticns for instrumentation -lid
control enabling the City to monitor and control the p:mping station operation_ locally
at the pump station site and remotely through the existing SCADA system. The
input /output points will include pumping station pump control, discharge pressure and
flow, reservoir water level and operational status and alarms. New equipment will be
specified to match City's specifications
Integration of the reservoir operation and equipment status into the existing SCADA
system will be described in the plans and technical specifications. The PLC will
provide local automatic control capabilities, as well as communication via radio to the
central computer system for remote monitoring and control. The UO list and other
system requirements will be established in conjunction with City staff and review of
City's existing SCADA characteristics,
Design Documents — Metcalf & Eddy will conduct a site visit and meet with the City
to clarify project needs prior to beginning design for equipping the pump station
facility. Available information, such as previous site - specific studies, the City's
standard details, and other similar projects performed for the City will also be
reviewed.
Metcalf & Eddy will prepare drawings and technical specifications for the equipping
of a new pump station and building, including architectural, mechanical, structural,
Company Confidential • Trade Secret and proprietary Information a(Afetcalf& Eddy, Inc.
