Wright with a trade-in credit of $18,005 for <br />221 weapons, for a difference of $75.45 due by the City. <br /> <br />DISCUSSION <br /> <br />The Police Department's Special Weapons and Tactics (S.W.A.T.) team is <br />charged with the responsibility of resolving high-risk assignments. <br />On-call 24 hours per day, the variety of possible scenarios <br />necessitates various specialty equipment. The purchase of the S.W.A.T. <br />equipment includes 2 shotguns, tactical drag bags for shotguns, and <br />updated weapon accessories for existing shotguns to best safeguard the <br />officers and to protect the community. <br /> <br />James Wright allows jurisdictions to offer trade-ins to offset the <br />cost. As such, 221 confiscated weapons are being traded-in with the <br />specific proviso that they are sold only to sworn police officers, <br />governmental agencies, or law enforcement departments and not to the <br />general public. <br /> <br />The notice inviting bids was advertised on June 29 and July I, 2005 and <br />bids were sol ici ted.
