<br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br /> <br />~ <br />~ <br /> <br />REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br /> <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br /> <br />SEPTEMBER 19, 2005 <br /> <br />APPROVED <br /> <br />TITLE: <br /> <br />AGREEMENT AMENDMENT FOR GED <br />TESTING SERVICES <br /> <br />o As Recommended <br />o As Amended <br />o Ordinance on 151 Reading <br />o Ordinance on 2nd Reading <br />o Implementing Resolution <br />o Set Public Hearing For <br /> <br />,'r--{ <br /> <br /> <br />CONTINUED TO <br /> <br />FILE NUMBER <br /> <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br /> <br />Direct the City Attorney to prepare and authorize the City Manager and the <br />Clerk of the Council to amend the agreement with the Orange County <br />Department of Education to provide General Education Diploma testing <br />services, extending the term of the agreement by an additional fifteen <br />months and increasing the compensation by $25,000 for a total aggregate <br />amount not to exceed $35,000. <br /> <br />DISCUSSION <br /> <br />The Santa Ana Jail provides various educational classes for the inmates. <br />One of the programs offered by the Jail is the opportunity for inmates to <br />obtain a General Educational Diploma (GED). The Alternative, Community, and <br />Correctional Education Schools and Services Division of the Orange County <br />Department of Education has been providing GED testing services to the Santa <br />Ana Jail inmates for the past several years. <br /> <br />Due to the popularity of this program, GED testing services have exceeded <br />the $10,000 limit and require Council approval. Approval of the amendment <br />will authorize compensation to the Orange County Department of Education for <br />services provided during the last three months of the 2004-2005 fiscal year <br />and allow the continuation of the program during FY 05-06. <br /> <br />FISCAL IMPACT <br /> <br />Funds are available in the Police Department, Inmate Welfare Fund Other <br />Contractual Services account (account no. 023-349-6291). <br /> <br />APPROVED AS TO FUNDS AND ACCOUNTS: <br /> <br />("'-~'_~ \~ \J~ <br /> <br />Paul M.
